Chalobah Expected to Step in for Marc Guehi in England Squad

Chelsea defender in action

Trevoh Chalobah emulated his sibling Nathaniel in representing England, emerging as the 21st pair of siblings to earn caps for the national team.

The Chelsea defender is likely to join up with the England squad to replace unavailable Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.

The 26-year-old is due to link up with the squad for England's remaining World Cup qualifying matches against Albania and Serbia, although it has still not been officially announced.

The Three Lions have already booked their place for the upcoming World Cup.

Chalobah was given his initial call-up under England head coach Thomas Tuchel in May and then earned his first cap against Senegal.

In September, Tuchel stated Chalobah was unlucky to be omitted from the team for qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, and also didn't call him up for the next October international break.

Tuchel has been an significant influence in Chalobah's career, having handed him his Chelsea debut in 2021.

Chalobah has appeared in almost every games for Chelsea this season, with the club occupying third spot in the Premier League, in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals and in the group stage of the Champions League.

Guehi suffered a foot injury in Crystal Palace's Conference League success over the Dutch side recently.

There are expected to be other call-ups to the selection. Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe has announced that both attacker Anthony Gordon (hip injury) and shot-stopper Nick Pope (a concussion) will be unavailable from the squad.
